Music Genres Explained

  

 To start having  music genres explained, you first need to understand

the different categories & styles that exist. Just spending a few minutes

compiling a music genre guide leads to the need to explain the multiple

sub's within the same traditional styles of music that gave birth to it.

This is where having music genres explained becomes so touchy. The

constraints of the original music genre are what makes some great

musicians break the tie that binds. A great example of this can be seen

 with Rock  branching off to hard rock or heavy metal which can then be

 broken down into thrash, death, & it goes on and on... Someone un-

familiar with the different styles may normally just think to lump them all

together. But try explaining this to someone who is into a specific group

 & you will find a complete opposite reaction & resistance to be bundled

 with it.

 

   There is unfortunately a major problem with having music genres ex-

plained in that the creation of a new genre can leave questions as to

who fits in it. What usually occurs is musicians with similar styles or even

location now become related to this new sound simply for the fact that it

 is the term of the time. This is similar to the 90's when Grunge, became

 the "thing". If you were one of the numerous bands signed from the

Seattle scene at that time, you were almost  immediately associated

with it. The problem now is once the major labels have decided that its

time is up, bands grouped with them are  doomed to follow it to its

grave. This or struggle to reinvent themselves for the new taste of the

 time like the metal bands of the 80's left struggling with Grunges birth.

 The same can be said for Disco in the 70's and the list go’s on and

on . . .Had this grouping of music genre been explained to the musicians

 stepping into it they may have been a little more reluctant. More suc-

cessful groups will have already taken steps to prevent this from

happening & add more dimension that will hopefully keep them from

being  grouped. More times then not though,the band’s that were

placed in that category, go by way of the here today gone tomorrow.

 It’s not to say that these bands are finished. It’s just that they have

 now become limited in their marketing or capability to score the same

 recognition they were receiving.The greatest thing available to these

groups is that where the music may be dead in one market it just may

 be beginning in another country which can lead to a rebirth in a foreign

 market.

    There are multiple approaches to having the abundance of music

 genres explained. It’s said that a band style usually represents who

 they are grouped with. Others may argue that it's a combination of the

 groups musical style, a consistent subject matter & even the fashion

worn by its members. Some times a group simply can’t be boxed into

 a specific music genre. When we started out trying to figure out how to

 have music genres explained we were looking for just that. One of the

examples given times & again to this is Led Zeppelin. Due to Jimmy

Pages guitar prowess & multiple musical influences  throughout his life,

he provided them a multi category placement. Most people will acquaint

them with Rock or even the birth of Heavy Metal. But if you really listen to

 them at time they will break into blues, folk, gospel, classic type melodies

 & love songs.

   Every answer that can be given on trying to have music genres explained
